Commercial Solar Installation Across Chicagoland

Growing population, aging infrastructure, and volatile energy prices make your energy costs difficult to predict and hard to plan for. Solar power provides reliable, low-cost energy that can not only save you money in the long run but can also lock in your energy costs for years or even decades.

Kapital Electric specializes in commercial solar installation and service for business, nonprofit, and government buildings. We walk you through the process of installation, maintenance, and financing from start to finish. We tailor an installation plan to your company’s unique needs and growth plans, and we stand behind our work.

The Solar Panel Installation Process

Consultation/Site Design

Our consultants examine your company thoroughly and work closely with you to design a solar solution that fits your space, energy needs, growth plan, and budget.

We draw up installation schedules, hardware options, and electrical grid integration to maximize the potential of your new commercial solar installation and minimize the disruption of your day-to-day business operations.

Our consultants will advise you on financing options and federal and Illinois solar tax incentives to pay for your new setup. We can finance up to $2 million on commercial solar installation and energy-efficiency projects. We can also help you take advantage of tax credits, accelerated depreciation, and other government incentives that will bring solar power within your budget.

Our Project Manager will oversee all the steps, from obtaining permits to the final inspection. You and your team can view the progression of the photovoltaic solar systems project every step of the way through your personal project website.

Every solar system receives Solar Renewable Energy Credits, also known as SRECs. The size of the system determines how many SRECs a system receives each year; these credits are like a commodity that can be sold through a broker. Kapital Electric has partnered with brokers who handle the sale of these credits and will assist you with the process that can save you up to 28% of the total cost of the system.

Green Facts About Solar Power

  • As of the end of 2017, the US has over 50 gigawatts of solar capacity installed.
  • Photovoltaic systems and module prices have fallen 80% since 2008 and 20% in 2012.
  • The payback period for commercial projects ranges between a 3- to 6-year return on investment.
  • A 5kW solar system in Illinois saves the equivalent carbon emissions of planting 100 trees every year!
  • The amount of solar power generated in the US has grown more than 230% from 2010 to 2017.
  • From 2010 to 2013, the price of a typical household solar energy system dropped by almost 30%.

Solar FAQ

Isn’t solar power expensive?

Now is the perfect time to go solar. With federal and state credits, your initial out-of-pocket costs can be reduced by up to 55%. Our Solar Energy Consultants will provide you with a complete overview regarding these incentives and guide you through the process of applying for and collecting them.

What about Chicago’s extreme weather (snow/cold/hail)?

Illinois generally, and Chicago in particular, is a great area for solar, with an average potential of 1,400 kWh per square meter. All the modules and equipment we use are designed and tested to stand up to our extreme weather.

Because the panels produce energy, they do generate a little bit of heat. Any snow that accumulates on the modules will simply melt. In addition, solar modules work more efficiently in cooler temperatures. Given the same amount of sunlight, a panel on a cold day produces more energy than a panel on a hot day.

All our modules have a 25-year warranty and have passed tests to withstand 1-inch hailstones at 50 mph. The racking is designed for 90 mph wind loads. The flashings have a 25-year warranty.

What happens when it is cloudy?

Our Energy Consultants will analyze your electric consumption throughout the year and design a system to meet your needs throughout the entire year.

You do not need perfect sunshine for your panels to produce energy. Your panels will still capture the power of the sun on cloudy or overcast days. In fact, Germany leads the world in terms of panel installations, yet they have the same usable sunlight as Alaska!

What happens when the power goes out?

Because you are still connected to the utility company, when the grid loses power, your power will be cut as well. This is to protect the utility workers trying to fix the outage. We DO NOT want your system to back-feed into the grid!

Where do I store the energy?

You can think of the utility company grid as an energy storage system. During the day, the excess energy you produce is stored at the utility company and your account is credited. At night when your panels are not producing energy, you simply draw from your account. Because you are connected to the grid, as long as the grid has power, you will have power. Even if you use more energy than your panels produce, you will still have power.

What solar companies do you work with?

We work with and support a wide array of solar equipment manufacturers, including:

Solar Panel Modules

Racking & Flashings

How much maintenance is involved?

Your solar panel system is virtually maintenance-free. The rain will wash away any dust or dirt that accumulates. In fact, your gutters probably require more maintenance than the solar panels.
